Born and raised in the Puget Sound area of Washington
State Dons introduction to art came by an emersion into
Northwest Native American art, their myths and mysteries.
His mother was a librarian, and through books he learned
how things were made and what made them work. Dons
mother helped him cultivate a deep interest of distant
lands, cultures and of course, adventure stories, but most
importantly she encouraged him to follow his own nature.
He did follow his nature and mixed it with a formal educa-
tion in art as well as a desire for exploration. He is pass-
ionate about assembling his contraptions, which is
clearly evident.

Completing his MFA in the 70's from Washington State
University, he continued onto a life in education, all the
while refining his sculptural compositions. He started
teaching at the college level while expanding his unique
style of art in projects like home construction, boat
building and cabinet/furniture making.
After twenty five years he retired to become a full time
studio artist and recently moved to San Diego , California.
